Whenever im in the office and i have nothing to do, i walk around the block and see whats going on over on the main street. And about 2 months ago, i started seeing all these middle school kids leaving school and doing weird seizure like movements. At first i thought it was some weird "hyphy" dance; but then Eric started explaining to me that it was called "jerkin'." So ever since then, i've been trying to be like these kids and "jerk" whenever im stuck in traffic or when Jose's car suddenly dies in the middle of the street. A couple weeks ago, Mari and I had nothing to do on a Monday. Or was it Tuesday? Whatever... Here's what we did.

When we finished the meal, our server asked us if we wanted dessert. We told him we were too full, but he insisted that we try their delicious brownies. Thir brownies were absolutely fabulous. (and that's coming from someone who isn't really fond of chocolate) Turns out, The Farm has won the "Best Brownie in LA" award 6 years in a row.

Life's Not Always About Beer and Drugs.

While we were in San Francisco, Catherine had to visit the D. Young Museum for school. I took this as the perfect opportunity to take a little break from life and enjoy the work that so many artists had put together.

Look at these two.

A full day of straight rain.

Like i had mentioned in my previous blog, I went to SF with only $10 in my wallet. Since it cost $10 to get in the museum, i had to use my secret invisible powers to sneak past security. ...I was proud of myself.

Here are some sculptures made out of hot blown-glass.

The contemporary section of the museum was breathtaking.

These next pieces were made of replica bullets and firearms.

Lastly, any trip to a museum wouldn't be complete without a 50 foot tall replica of a safety pin.

Then we headed over to a friend's place where we got drunk and blew a few lines.

Last, LAST friday, Eric and I decided to go to the bay. Why? We really don't know. And it took us ALL of 10 minutes to figure out how we were going to get there, where we were going to stay, and what we were going to do there. I then proceeded to pack, grab my shitty little point-n-shoot, smoke a cigarette and really think about what we were going to embark on. So at around 9 P.M., Eric came to my house and off we were.

Nothin' like In-N-Out to start a trip off.

Together we had $100. All of which was going into our gas for the trip. Oh, and by the way, Eric had $90 and I had $10.

Cruised at about 80 the whole way.

Stopped somewhere to re-up on fuel.

We also had to re-up on air for the tires.

After about 5 hours, we finally made it to the Bay Bridge.

We finally made it to Catherine's room, and this is all she has to say.

Eric thought it was funny.

No beer, no nothin'. Just sleep.

The next morning we decided to go see the one thing that Eric and I haven't seen on our many trips up to SF... The Golden Gate Bridge.

Eric: So how do we get there?
Catherine: I don't know...

???

This was the first time i'd seen her since i was about 10.

We were lucky that we were even able to see her. It had rained all week in SF, and it began raining again later that night.

They wanted to make this their Christmas card this year... Stoops.

Tourists.

After the bridge, we had lunch with Catch's friends. They then decided to get their nails done. Eric and I weren't about to watch them, so we headed downtown.

We also visited Tony and the rest of The Hundreds fam.

Afterwards, we decided to head back to USF and rest a little. Here's a nightshot of the church... from afar.

After a couple hours, we decided to go the the city-wide pillowfight... drunk, of course. Unfortunately, because of my intoxication, i left my camera in Catherine's room. Fortunately, we met Aldie and Cristina there, and Aldie has some great footage his blog. Click HERE

We woke up the next day and went to the D. Young Museum. I took way too many pictures, so i'll blog about it next time. Afterwards, we went to Hooters to watch the NBA All-Star game.

Since Eric was feeling under the weather, we headed back to Catch's after dinner. Eric nursed his fever, Catherine spent 5 hours on facebook, and I got drunk. ...so typical.

The next morning, we left and headed back to LALALand. First, we dropped Catherine off in Berkeley at Alex's place.

About 3 hours after we left the SF, Eric and I heard that the Grapevine was closed and that an alternate route was suggested. We decided to have a little adventure and take the detour. We didn't know that we were in for a hellova ride.

After passing through Bakersfield, we saw something on the freeway.

There was a fuckin' helicopter on the freeway!

Apparently, someone had rolled their SUV.

We took the alternate route to avoid snow, hail, and rain. It didn't matter, we got plenty of all three.

And then we ended up in the Mojave desert.

After crazy amounts of rain, slight hail, ice covered roads, 8 hours of total driving and one loooonnnnngg conversation, we made it home... To downey... Which isn't really home... and found Cuervo.

I went to the city of Angels today to handle some business with the partners. After a short meeting, we got hungry and decided to go to one of L.A.'s most beautiful and renowned restaurants. After the Valet parked our cars, we walked in and sat down at one of the restaurant's finest tables. The lovely waitress offered us cocktails and we basked in serene ambiance of the small and cozy room.

Here's the tastefully designed menu.

The room was filled with mild-mannered aristocrats and softspoken socialites.

My meal paired perfectly with my glass of 1947 French Cabernet.

Once we finished, the maitre'd offered each of us fine Cuban cigars. We all walked out very, VERY happy men.

Okay... I'll stop pulling your leg. BUT SERIOUSLY. El Tepeyac is the finest when it comes to authentic mexican food. It's a family owned joint, and each sibling has a hand in running the restaurant. Come famished, because even the hungriest will have trouble finishing their monster sized burritos. Next time you're in "EastLos," be sure to stop by El Tepeyac. ...just be sure to aviod 18th street so you don't get shot.

Calif. Taxpayers Due Refunds May Instead Get IOUs

If you expect you'll be getting a refund from California when you file your 2008 state income tax return, be prepared: you may instead receive a "registered warrant." Translation: an IOU.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger has a new plan to close the state's ever widening budget gap.

New Plan Released

California is rapidly running out of money. Blame it on the state budget deficit that continues to bleed billions of dollars from California's reserves. Facing inadequate credit to make up the difference, California's Controller John Chiang warns that by the end of February, the nation's most populous state may not be able to pay some of its debts, and instead be reduced to issuing those creditors IOUs.

"My office has projected that, in approximately 60 days, there will be insufficient cash available to meet all expenditures reflected in the 2008-09 Budget Act," stated a Tuesday letter from Controller Chiang to the directors of all state agencies. "To ensure that the State can meet its obligations to schools, debt service, and others entitled to payment under the State Constitution, federal law, or court order. California may begin, as early as February 1, 2009, issuing registered warrants...commonly referred to as IOUs...to individuals and entities in lieu of regular payments."

California has not resorted to IOUs since the 1992 budget crisis when Pete Wilson was governor. Back then, some 100,000 state employees got IOUs instead of paychecks for two months until the state approved a budget. The 1992 crisis came during summer, well past the tax season, but at least 12,000 tax refunds were also issued as IOUs, according to a contemporaneous report in the Los Angeles Times.

The other day, i went over to irvine to see how my good friend and shocker was doing. He welcomed me over to his apartment with a beer and we sat down on his couch. Its been awhile since i've had any serious blogs or any serious talks, but times are serious now, and im being serious.

No, I don't work for FOX, and i'm not from the Southeast. I'm not Sean Hannity's apprentice, nor am I a "gunslingin' religious nut". I'm not racist and no, i'm not homophobic. I AM however rational and i do have a mind of my own.

Like any other aspiring "millionaire" wannabe, "partying" college student, I am looking to be rich in the future. No, im not talking about $100,000 or $900,000. Im talking MILLIONS. Im sure everyone has some kind of plans laid out. Some are going to be doctors and some are going to be lawyers, but i've decided to go on a completely different route. Some of you may know, and some don't, but that isn't my point. My point is that im going to be living in this country and I have only hoped that in this past election, the proper man for the job was chosen.

I voted for John McCain. There, i said it. Not because i wanted to hop off the bandwagon or because i thought it would cool to go against what basically every first time voter in California thought would be the right thing to do. I did it because i care about the future of this country. Im not the most educated of individuals, but i guarantee i've researched and listened to more of the most biased of TV and radio stations than you have. I've gone online to reliable sources and have even talked to a few community politicians. Therefore, i can undoubtedly say that i had made an intelligent decision.

I don't mean to bash on anybody that voted or on anyone who has an opinion, but my point is that this is my opinion and this is my blog, so i can say whatever the FUCK i want.

Without further ado, here is my basis as to why i voted for John McCain.

First of all, just like you, i am a first-time voter. Therefore, without saying much anyone can reasonably say that i am neither a left-wing socialist, nor a right-wing wacko. But after anylizing the very words of President-elect Obama, i have decided that he is... socialist i mean.

Since polls have shown that the economy was the biggest concern among Americans, I will start with that. Obama's policy included the "spreading of wealth" among Americans. Now, if i understand that correctly, Obama is planning on raising taxes on hard-working Americans and raising taxes to a much higher degree to those who make over $250,000 a year. Sure, it sounds great!? The government is going to start issuing checks to poorer families and citizens so that they can provide themselves with the 3 basic necessities for survival: food, clothing, and shelter. So is Obama saying that a mother with 3 children living in a poor community is Southcentral Los Angeles can sit at home all day waiting for a $1,200 check ($300 per person, per household) and enjoy her free food and project housing which she recieves from wellfare and other government programs like WIC (Women, Infants, & Children)? Meanwhile, small businesses and growing companies will struggle in finding employees who are willing to work manual labor jobs for minimum wage? That to me, sounds UNAMERICAN. Wasn't it great presidents who said that America is that land for "equal opportunity" and that everyone who works hard can make a good living? cough*, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, FDR, cough*. Sure, you can say that this woman didn't have any opportunity to make more money, but neither did other great philanthropists like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. So in theory, if growing businesses struggled to hire and find empoyees, and were forced to close because they did not have the manpower to continue and develop, then wouldn't the economy suffer? Just like i had mentioned earlier, i plan... err, I AM going to be a Millionaire. Therefore, i wouldn't appreciate Obama sticking his hands in MY wallet, taking MY hard-earned money, and GIVING it to people who don't work and don't have any aspirations of becoming more successful.

Now, since the American people said that the war in the middle east was the second most concerning issue, i again will give you my rationale as to why i voted against Obama. Does anyone ever still remember what happened on September 11, 2001? In case you forgot, we were deliberately attacked by TERRORIST on our own soil. So like any other American would, we decided to retaliate and protect our country. Some people don't agree with the war, but no one can disagree that we HAD to defend ourselves. Obama said that he would withdraw our troops from the Middle East and cut military spending by the Billions. He also said that he would hold and stall future weapons development and weapons defense. So if i understood president-elect Obam correctly, he said that he would stop suppressing the terrorists in the Middle East and allow them to overrun their former territories? While we cut our spending, the terrorists would increase their's and purchase more weapons and firearms? And while we paused our research for further weapon's defense systems, the terrorists would figure out how to devastate us further by using newer, more formidable technology? Uhh, Mr. Obama, are you telling me that instead of crashing planes into our major cities, the terrorists may get their hands on cruise missles and destroy our country without even having to step a foot onto our soil? What happened to the America that wanted to rid the world of hatred and of crimes? What happened to defending freedom and democracy? What happened to saving the oppressed people of other nations from their cruel and awful tyranny? ...i don't know, maybe you should ask the 52% of registered voters who cast their ballots for Obama.

Lastly, one of the main reasons why i did not vote for Senator Obama was because of his lack of experience. Mr. Obama, you graduated in the top percentile of your class to become a community organizer? And from there, you suddenly had the great idea to become a State Senator and then run for The President of the world... oops, United States? And i have yet to have mentioned your so-called mentor and pastor for over twenty years! For so long, you faithfully attended and praised Rev. Jeremiah Wright and his church. Even if you didn't have a clue as to who Jerimiah Wright was, wouldn't you question a person's character when he suddenly denies attending and participating in a church? Isn't it strange that one would suddenly have a change of heart in deciding and pursuing a religious faith when he is suddenly scrutinized? Again, i can't answer these questions... you'll have to ask the rest of the media crazed california voters.

If you read this fuckin' rant, then i owe you a cookie. And don't come here making unintelligent comments. Keep in mind all you Obama-maniacs, i kept this rant clean. There is SOOO much more i could have, and maybe should have said.

Plane Crash.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (KABC) -- Two names well-known to Los Angeles nightlife are the sole-survivors of a deadly plane crash in South Carolina.
Former Blink-182 drummer, Travis Barker, and Adam Goldstein--known professionally as DJ AM, were critically injured in the plane crash that claimed the lives of four other people.

Federal Aviation Administration spokeswoman Kathleen Bergen said the plane carrying six people was departing shortly before midnight Friday when air traffic controllers reporting seeing sparks. The plane headed for Van Nuys, Calif., went off a runway, through a fence and crashed on a nearby road, officials said.

Barker and DJ AM were in critical condition at a burn center in Augusta, Ga., about 75 miles southwest of Columbia, hospital spokeswoman Beth Frits said.

Two other passengers - Chris Baker, 29, of Studio City, Calif., and Charles Still, 25, of Los Angeles - died, as did pilot Sarah Lemmon, 31, of Anaheim Hills, Calif., and co-pilot James Bland, 52, of Carlsbad, according to the county coroner. Baker was an assistant to Barker and Still was a security guard for the musician.

At the crash site Saturday, the air was still heavy with the odor of jet fuel. A trail of black soot led off a runway, across a five-lane road next to the airport and up an embankment. The nose of the aircraft was gone and the roof was missing from two-thirds of the charred plane.

Barker and Goldstein had performed together under the name TRVSDJ-AM at a free concert in Columbia on Friday night.

"It's absolutely terrible and tragic," Columbia Mayor Bob Coble said.

The show, which included performances by former Jane's Addiction singer Perry Ferrell and singer Gavin DeGraw, drew 10,000 people into the streets of Five Points, the neighborhood near the University of South Carolina, Coble said.

Neither Ferrell nor DeGraw were in the plane, their representatives told AP on Saturday.

One concertgoer said TRVSDJ-AM's performance was unique and different.
"It was literally one of the best shows I've ever scene," said Brett Flashnick, a freelance photographer who works for The Associated Press and attended the concert for a local newspaper.

We woke up at around noon that day and were happily treated to a old school breakfast. Chocolate chip pancakes, SPAM, eggs and rice quickly had me needing to go drop a nuke in the bathroom... but it was well worth it. Here's Catherine: I think she's a morning person.

As i got out of the bathroom, i found these two on the bed. So i suddenly had the bright idea of starting the day off with my good friend Captain Morgan (not pictured). Thanks for the inspiration guys.

Once Eric and I had our couple glasses we decided to hit the streets.

I passed by this dude working at this "Chicken Pot Pie" place. He looked like he was having a good day. He started laughing after i took this.

We started getting hungry for real food, so we hit up Blondies.

We couldn't figure out what to do, so we decided to head to Haight street. We all needed to find something to wear to some stupid 80's themed party. On the way, we passed by this building with furniture hanging all on the sides of it. I thought it was pretty damn creative.

I couldn't get to the same place where i took a picture of this Ben & Jerry's last year. ...actually, i was just too damn lazy to walk to where i took the picture.

After "buying" the most ridiculous outfits to the fucking party, we decided to go back to USF.

After waking up from the most restful 5 hour sleep i've had in my life, (odd, considering that Nathan and I slept on a COLD floor) Catherine treated us to an "amazing" breakfast at the "world-renowned" USF student diner. As you can see, it was so good that i finished my whole plate.

Then we took off for a long day of pointless sightseeing. Eazy-E and Nate Dogg in command.

We stopped by The Hundreds San Francisco to check out the store. Despite being the devout follower that i am, i was pretty upset to find out that Tony wasn't there. Divorced parents, re-married parents, re-divorced parents, deceased half brother, accidents, drugs, sex, fights, girls and girlfriends, so many step siblings i cant even count, a DUI, and numerous falling outs with God. I CAN HANDLE THINGS. But for maybe the first time in my life i feel this hill may be too steep. You're a bitch sometimes... you say it yourself.

Staying on topic, i can easily say that i've had to go through alot with you. Lying, cheating, etc. I can deal with that; obviously i have. But when i am constantly chastised for every single thing i do, the world seems to suddenly frown upon me. If you didn't want me to do something, you should of told me. And if you didn't want me to say anything, you should of told me. It seems to happen more and more. Everyday you're chipping away at my heart, and i truly don't know how much heart is left in this chubby fellow. I just can't deal with it anymore. Yes im a prick, yes im an asshole... At least i can justify myself by telling you all of that before i even got serious with you. All we did today was fight. And why? Because you can't seem to find it in yourself to let go and enjoy something so insignificant as talking with your friends. THATS RIGHT. They're just as much yours as they are mine.

I was reading my past "Xanga" posts and i thought this was interesting. Its funny how when you read your past "diary entries," you realize how much you've grown and matured.

...sure i've grown and matured, but don't think i've changed.

The girl next door...

She's that girl who lives next door. The girl who smiles and waves whenever you pass each other. The girl who always says "good morning" or "hello" before you have the chance to, and after she does, she walks away leaving you with your mouth half open. Shes the girl who gets good grades and always walks home with an armfull of notebooks. She even offers to tutor you with you geometry homework whenever you need help and asks for nothing in return. She loves playing with little kids and whenever a girlscout knocks on her door to sell cookies, she smiles and buys all the cookies the girl has in her red wagon. She doesnt like staying indoors and would prefer to go outside and play. She enjoys watching sunsets from her second story balcony and instead of watching television, she would prefer to sit down and read a book. Shes a "Hopeful" romantic because she believes that being hopeless is like being mindless. She doesn't need anyone to open doors for her and prefers to open doors for other people. She has her driver's license because she has a longing for freedom, and she prefers to drive others as oppose to be driven. Photography is her form of expression and she always has a polaroid camera handy. She keeps a diary on her dresser and is a writer by night. Shes cool, smart, funny, and cute.

But do you know what the best part about her is?

...she lives next door.

Sometimes its quite difficult to "do whatever makes you happy." Just a few minutes ago, i received the best and worst news of my life. Its nothing quite dramatic; ive been through it before. However, i find it so difficult to comprehend. God, what are you trying to tell me? What is it that you have called me to do?

Everyone always tells you to "learn from your mistakes," right? I thought i learned... and goddamnit, it was a hard lesson.

VIMBY (Video in My Backyard) recently did an in-store interview with the shop. All together the shoot probably took about 6 hours and they shot so many pictures i couldn't even keep count. And anyone who was there will never forget how many times Francis the Barber messed up. He must've repeated "LA is my backyard" at least 20 times... and the funny part is that they didn't even put that in the video! Anyways, it was really well edited and im happy to see that the store looks really good. Anyways, here's the video:

When im bored at work, i tend to hop on YouTube and check out videos. I've been really into this band, and i had never seen the video until recently. I love the bassline in the song, but i think i love the video even more. This is what boredom can bring you to do. An intense fire tore through a manufacturing plant and pallet yard Tuesday afternoon in South L.A. The flames sent a dark plume of smoke into that sky that could be seen from Orange County to the San Fernando Valley.

Reports of the fire at 6236 Gramercy Place came in to authorities at about 2:15 p.m., according to the city Fire Department.

Firefighters were quickly forced to take a defensive position and attempt to prevent the fire from spreading to adjoining buildings.

Sky 9 reported that some local power lines had fallen on a fire truck, trapping a firefighter inside. However, d'Lisa Davies of the city Fire Department told the station that there were no reports of any firefighters being injured.

The cause of the fire wasn't immediately known, but stacks of shipping pallets stored at the site fueled the flames.

No injuries have been reported.
